PACKAGING & POSTING ARTWORK

KEEPING IT FLAT

I want to make sure your artwork order arrives in perfect condition, so I take great care in how I package it. I don’t just roll prints up inside a cardboard tube, as these can sometimes get crushed by heavier items during courier transportation.

In addition to this, high quality printmaking papers are delicate, and pulling them in and out of a cardboard tube can damage the edges. I take great care not to dent these papers and I store them flat from the moment I purchase them.

So I sandwich your item between two 3000 mic greyboards which I trim to size. These are super sturdy (and expensive!) and protect artwork brilliantly. I can never guarantee a print won’t get damaged in transit (although it hasn’t happened yet!), but the greyboard gives me piece of mind that I am giving it the best chance to arrive in perfect condition.

Sealed Cellophane WALLET

Before I encase your order inside the greyboard, I seal it inside a sealed cellophane wallet. This offers not only waterproof protection but also protects the surface of the print too.

And if you’re dropping by my studio to collect your print from me directly, you’ll also receive it in a sealed cellophane wallet backed onto cardboard to keep it flat. Then you can take it away in a recyclable kraft paper bag.

Quality BROWN PAPER

For posting, the final layer is good old fashioned brown paper, of which I wrap several layers around the greyboard securely with brown parcel tape. The parcel tape helps to reinforce the edges during transit, in particular the corners which are more susceptible to knocks.

Once this is complete your order will be on its way!

INFORMATION SHEET

When I package your artwork, I enclose an information sheet (a brilliant idea suggested by a customer!). If you are giving one of my prints as a gift then the recipient will understand how a linocut or screenprint was made. It also explains they are receiving something special - not something mass-produced!

POST & PACKAGING COSTS

So, in addition to the courier’s costs, my packaging costs are perhaps more expensive than others. But you are receiving beautiful, handprinted artwork, carefully and thoughtfully packaged by myself in good quality materials. I want the packaging to match the quality of your purchase!

In such a circumstance that your print does arrive damaged, I will either send you a replacement (if there is one available) or refund your original purchase cost. You can read about this in more detail on my Order & Delivery page.
